About artist: Rónán Ó Raghallaigh is an artist from Kildare working with painting, drawing and performance. His work responds to Irish mythology, folklore and ritual, interwoven with personal and shared histories. He paints imagery in response to his experiences at ritual sites, and also creates performances which incorporate aspects of historical belief systems. Rónán graduated from NCAD with an MFA Art in the Contemporary World and his exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions in Ireland and abroad.
About artwork: This work refers to an ancient Irish ritual called the Tarbh Feis (Bull Feast.) During this ceremony, a bull would be consumed by a seer before entering a deep sleep or trance state in order to choose a future king.
