Description
About artist: Ruth Egan is an Irish artist who studied visual arts at fine art academy St Lucas in Brussels, Belgium, specialising in painting and printmaking. Currently based in Dublin, she has had solo exhibitions of her works at St John’s Theatre & Arts Centre (Listowel), Cruthú Arts Festival (Longford), The Helix and Gallery Contact J (Antwerp, Belgium), among others. One of her images was one of seven winning images for the ÉIRÍ (Evoking Ireland’s Resilient female Icons) Project international arts competition and research in 2023. She has participated in group exhibitions in Ranelagh Arts Festival, Halftone Print Fair, Birr Vintage Festival, Galway Fringe Festival, Dingle’s Féile na Bealtaine Festival and has enjoyed an artist’s residency at the Cill Rialaig Project in Ballinaskelligs, Co. Kerry. Her works have featured on the covers of Studies in Arts and Humanities journal and Hidden Channel Zine, as well as in Drawn to the Light and The Ogham Stone.. Her practice revolves around an original and intimate documenting of the surroundings and is an attempt to capture a stillness in flow of this surrounding flux – a presence, a stirring, a juxtaposition of colours – and distil this into image.
About artwork: This work was part of an exhibition of paintings depicting people through the generations and through the seasons, reflecting both the cycle of human life and of nature. The painting although unframed is nevertheless ready to hang since it is painted on a wooden board with hanging fitting at the back and so can be hung directly on the wall.
