About artwork: Paula's career as a painter has spanned over 30 years. She graduated from NCAD in the 80's and spent many years travelling, teaching and exhibiting abroad. Once back in Ireland her work evolved from figurative images to lush moody landscapes. Paula's current paintings are focused on a sense of peaceful solitude which is felt while standing alone in the harsh windswept wet landscape. The abstract landscapes invite the viewer in, for them to connect with a place , imagery or real. The paintings are about the weight of the land, isolation, beauty and silence. The paintings marry the two mediums of oil paint and graphite. The brush allows Paula the freedom to make lush moody painterly landscapes while the graphite drawings in the forefront allows her to make sharp, bold, complex and realistic lines. For Paula mood and memory are central to her imagery and overall composition. All of her recent paintings strive to capture a sense of a place for the artist and the viewer.
