Description
About artist: Welcome to my colorful world! I'm Rukmini Kelkar, an artist and designer based in Dublin. My journey began in Mumbai, but in 2017, life took an unexpected turn when I moved to Dublin to join my husband. I was a dentist back in Mumbai, but when I realized I couldn't continue in that field here, I discovered something new—art.
I started teaching myself to paint through YouTube in 2018, and it quickly became my therapy. Art helped me find my way, and soon after, I dove into graphic design, completing my HND in 2020.
My art is bright, joyful, and a celebration of life’s imperfections. It’s inspired by my experiences of moving from India to Ireland, and I love infusing my work with stories of migration, empowerment, and resilience. Through my brand, Studio 32, I also work with small immigrant-owned and local female-led businesses, helping them bring their visions to life.
Right now, I'm studying for my MA in Art and Social Action at NCAD, exploring how creativity can inspire positive change in the world.
About artwork: "Fruit Salad" is my playful tribute to the simple joys of life—summer fruits, warm countries, and sun-soaked picnics. The colors and patterns remind me of the sweet, refreshing feeling you get when biting into a juicy fruit on a hot day. Every shape and shade is meant to evoke those moments of carefree fun, like spreading a blanket under a tree, surrounded by friends and family, with a basket full of bright, delicious fruits. The vibrant pinks, yellows, and blues in this piece echo the warmth of tropical countries where nature bursts with color, and life feels a little lighter. The patterns are like the textures of different fruits—some smooth, some bumpy, some full of surprises. It's a celebration of those small pleasures that bring so much joy. For me, this painting is all about savoring those moments of happiness and simplicity. I hope that when people look at it, they can almost taste the sweetness and feel the warmth of a sunny summer day.
