About artist: Season Dailey (b.1984 in Maine) is an American visual artist living and working in Dublin. Dailey’s artistic body of work gravitates towards vibrance, contrast and abundance as she presents us with novel and unexpected settings, which provoke the viewer to alter their initial interpretation of her compositions. Dailey embraces juxtaposition within her work, through her vivid use of colour, subject and perspective which harmonise to create a nuanced sense of energy. She employs the use of visual distortion as if viewing through a fisheye lens, married with elements of the mundane and a considered cropping of subjects to evoke a welcome dialogue between the viewer and her depiction of contemporary Irish life and its people and objects. Dailey’s use of oil paint is often opaque in layers with segmented tones, achieved by the use of thickening powders and impasto, in vibrant but inviting palettes. These components allow for an overall balance between flat and multidimensional, realistic and fantastical spaces. As well as figurative works, she creates intuitive mark making paintings and abstract landscape paintings inspired by travel and the Irish countryside. Season graduated from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin in 2020, where she received a first class honours degree in Fine Art Painting. Her degree work was shortlisted for the RDS Visual Arts Awards, and also included in the Rua Red Winter Open of that year. Since then she has received bursary funding from the Irish Arts Council, and her paintings have been added to a number of public and private collections, auctioned with Herman & Wilkinson Auctioneers and South Dublin Auctioneers, as well as included in multiple exhibitions and galleries in Ireland, such as Hangtough Contemporary, Studio 10, and Rua Red.
About artwork: This piece is a still life study for a larger painting. A childhood memory of an antique shop I used to love going to. Inside the doors was an immediate transportation to past eras. I recently went as an adult and had the same childhood experience. All of the objects in a busy setting creating a dialogue amongst themselves. This narrative is for the viewer to conjure, my narrative different to yours. The small study, a ceramic chihuahua, is a gouache painting on Fabriano Artistico paper.
