Description
About artist: Cian Walker is a Dublin-based artist who works in the fields of painting, video and
sound. Formerly active in Ireland's graffiti scene since the late 1990s, Walker has
established a studio practice informed by life in contemporary Ireland, architecture and topography, bastions of control, communication and miscommunication, and the pervasiveness of digital technology,
Walker's work explores colour relationships and texture to create paintings that offer a space
of contemplation. Despite the abstract nature of his work, it offers a perspective driven by emotion
and intuition that attempts to capture a momentary aspect of existence, an attempt at guiding oneself
through the infinite space of possibility. Walker is interested in personal freedom, the possibility of freedom in contemporary society, the unfulfilled potential for a just society driven by a post-capitalist desire.
About artwork: The endless pursuit of things unknown', acrylic and spray paint on canvas, 60x80cm, 2024 'The endless pursuit of things unknown' refers to my overall philosophy on creating, I always get such a thrill from bringing a work into existence that has previously just been imaginary, that exchange of a nebulous idea in my mind's eye, translated and morphed by my actual eyes and hands, it's never right, the translation is never perfect but that's what keeps that curiosity burning. I also think quite a bit about aliens, paranormal activity, the minuscule amount that we as humans genuinely understand of the universe, pretty humbling to be reminded of our relative insignificance.
