Description
About artist: Julianne Guinee is an oil painter, figurative and landscape based in Buttevant, County Cork. She graduated from the University of Limerick in 2011 with a Bachelor of Education.
Julianne is particularly drawn to imagery and complexities of the human form and works where possible from life, whether hiring models for her studio or taking to the fields. She works in oils, her work from life informing her practice for her larger pieces completed with the aid of photography. She balances thought provoking paintings of explosive power with gentler nostalgic paintings which celebrate the ordinary miracle, taking you on a journey around many of the different aspects of everyday life. She is known best for her paintings which celebrate the everyday magic of childhood.
Julianne is represented by the Russell Gallery, New Quay, the Kildare Gallery and by Gallery 1608, Co. Antrim. She exhibits throughout Ireland as part of group shows and most recently as part of the 194th RHA annual exhibition.
About artwork: Queen by Julianne Guinee presents a young girl seated confidently in a grand armchair. She wears a gold crown, signifying royalty, while her posture suggests both strength and serenity. Draped in a soft blue gown that pools over the chair, the girl exudes a quiet authority, her gaze fixed with a sense of pride and self-assurance. The rich textures of the velvet chair and her flowing dress contrast with the muted, subtle background, which places full emphasis on her regal presence. Guinee captures a moment that transcends youth, portraying the girl as both innocent and powerful in her imagined kingdom. The brushstrokes, especially in the fabrics and the girl's hair, convey movement and life, giving the painting a dynamic quality while maintaining its classic, almost timeless aesthetic.
