Description
About artist: Welcome to my colorful world! I'm Rukmini Kelkar, an artist and designer based in Dublin. My journey began in Mumbai, but in 2017, life took an unexpected turn when I moved to Dublin to join my husband. I was a dentist back in Mumbai, but when I realized I couldn't continue in that field here, I discovered something new—art.
I started teaching myself to paint through YouTube in 2018, and it quickly became my therapy. Art helped me find my way, and soon after, I dove into graphic design, completing my HND in 2020.
My art is bright, joyful, and a celebration of life’s imperfections. My art is inspired by my experiences of moving from India to Ireland, and I love infusing my work with stories of migration, empowerment, and resilience. Through my brand, I also work with small immigrant-owned and local female-led businesses, helping them bring their visions to life through logo design and branding.
Right now, I'm studying for my MA in Art and Social Action at NCAD, exploring how creativity can inspire positive change in the world.
About artwork: I Found a Home Full of Dopamine is all about creating a space where I can thrive—a place filled with joy, freedom, and the vibrancy that fuels my growth. This piece was inspired by my personal journey of moving from Mumbai to Dublin, where I had to rebuild my life and find a new sense of home. Through layers of bright, bold colors, I wanted to capture the feeling of empowerment that comes from carving out your own space in the world. I chose this work to reflect how color can evoke those "feel-good" feelings, much like the release of dopamine in the brain. To me, color is more than just visual—it's emotional. It’s that little burst of happiness that can turn a dull day into something magical. As with much of my work, this piece celebrates imperfection and resilience. It’s about finding joy in the process of creating, embracing the unknown, and discovering how beautiful life can be when we allow ourselves to grow and evolve. I hope it brings a little bit of that same energy and happiness to everyone who views it.
