About artist: Aoife is a visual artist based in Dublin, Ireland. She received her MFA in Photography from the Belfast School of Art (2018). Her work has been exhibited internationally. Recent exhibition venues include The National Gallery of Ireland, The Royal Hibernian Academy, Green on Red Gallery, Art Singapore and Photofairs Shanghai. She was the recipient of the 2016 RHA Curtin O'Donoghue Emerging Photographic Artist Award. Her work resides in a number of collections including The National Gallery of Ireland, The OPW State Art Collection and The David Kronn/IMMA Collection.
About artwork: Trumped is from the series BioTraits. A piece of film  is exposed to a source of bacteria and stored in a dark place for several weeks. The bacteria feed on the film’s silver gelatin emulsion, destabilizing it. As the culture grows, it consumes the gelatin as a food source and liberates the silver particles into abstract patterns. Eventually the bacteria die and no more changes occur. The resulting negative, visibly altered, is scanned and is a permanent record of the bacteria's presence. Bacteria have eaten into the image of Donald Trump and engulfed his open mouth. His voice silenced.
