Description
About artist: Síle is a self taught artist that lives with her husband and two children in the South East of Ireland. A former Veterinary nurse and Lifeguard Trainer she practiced art at an amateur level and after a hiatus from practice while her children were young she returned to painting in 2018 with the aim to build a career as a professional artist. Síle set up a studio space and began to build a body of work expressing her personal connection with the coastline and celebrating the communities that gravitate towards it. She has exhibited extensively over the past five years having paintings included in both the RHA and RUA annual exhibitions and Solo Shows in Flash Gallery, Barcelona and The Limerick Museum, Limerick City. Her work to date has exclusively centered on drawing and painting but she is also currently focused on expanding her skill base into traditional coastal crafts, directing her artistic practice as a whole towards raising environmental awareness. Until now Síle has expressed the impact the ocean has on humanity and now her intention is to reverse the concept to the impact humanity has on the ocean. She is enjoying her trajectory in the art world and to continuing to evolve her practice as a full time artist.
About artwork: Swim Diary Series 3 is a painting on paper from a body of work based around the narratives I have observed in swimming pool changing rooms. As a former Swim Teacher, Lifeguard Trainer and now parent taking their own children to these spaces I have become acutely aware of the environment, harsh lighting, décor and actions of the changing room and it is one that I don't think a lot of people think about beyond its functional capacity. This piece depicts one of my son climbing on the cubicle so he can talk to his friend in the one beside him after the swimming lesson. We were always the last to leave!
