Description
About artist: Siobhán Collins is a Cork-based figurative painter exploring materiality, embodiment and themes of transition and transformation. Her work is informed by philosophical ideas of “becoming-with”, particularly as interpreted by eco-feminist theorist, Donna Haraway. In her art, she reconstructs and retells stories. She is influenced by folklore, mythology and the New Weird fiction that intertwines and subverts traditional genres in its response to gender politics, technology, climate uncertainty and chaos. Siobhán has a PhD in English Literature (UCC), a Diploma in Botanical Illustration (SBA, London), and a Certificate in Fine Art (RHA / TUD). She regularly exhibits work in curated group shows in Cork, Clare, Galway and Dublin. She has recently shown several works in a 2-person exhibition Inside/Outside, 2023 (with Norma Healy), and has an upcoming 3-person exhibition Figure|Form in January 2025 (with Joseph Heffernan and Emmet Brickley). Siobhán is a member of: Visual Artists Ireland (VAI), Backwater Artists Network (BAN), and Sample Studios Creative Network, Cork.
About artwork: I think of this work as a narrative painting. Its story draws on paradisal imagery, but it's more a sense of the story than a literal interpretation. The work is figurative with abstract elements. It is created using oil and oil sticks on paper.
