About artist: Catherine has a love of Art & Design in all its forms. She initially studied Art Design & Mixed Media, Display Design & later Graphic Reproduction Post Grad Diploma. Her love of Abstract Art stayed with her during her 26 years of Visual Display career. Catherine loves photography & silversmithing, creating her own bespoke jewellry pieces. These facets & love of all these areas of design, greatly informed her painting style to evolve & bring an awareness of shape, colour & form . Catherine is involved teaching adult abstract art evening classes/ workshops, where her passion for abstract art plays a huge part. She wants everyone to have an understanding, that creativity is available for all & it's not just available to artists. Her ethos is creativity is simply part of being human & it needs to be harnessed, encouraged & supported. Catherine takes part in annual art fundraisers for various charities such as the C.R.C, Outhouse Art Auction & Incognito in aid of the Jack & Jill foundation. Her work has been exhibited in the Cowshed Gallery Farmleigh Phoenix Park, Art Angel Gallery Skerries, Gallery Eleven Stillorgan, Malahide Gallery, One Space Culture Cork & Lusk Cultural Centre. She has Artwork for sale in numerous places such as Taylor Made Crafts Ardgillan, Rock Bakery Cafe Skerries & the Michelin rated restaurant Potager in Skerries. Catherine's painting techniques have developed a strong sense of style, combining concrete grey smokey tones as her signature style background in her acrylic painting. This style provides the perfect backdrop to strong areas of saturated colour. The building up of surface texture & layering plays a constant role in all her work adding depth & interest to each piece. Catherine believes her artistic path is one of constant learning & exploration, her work is a "process" rather than an "end result". Her hope is for her art journey to continue going forward with great enthusiasm & passion!
About artwork: This painting is a mixed media piece in acrylic measuring 50 x 50cm on deep edge canvas. This pieces is one of four in a series. This work is trying to focus on my love of lines & also combining it with fluid ethereal subtleties. It is the study in how the two can combine, how the hard edge of a line can co-exist with the ethereal. The two are polar opposites, as in life we too endure both the hard & smooth emotionally. The ebb & flow in life . The signature use of smokey grey provides the perfect backdrop to the pops of colour & deep tonal variations adding contrast & depth. The textured canvas is also providing a tactile sensory experience as well as a visual interest. All these combinations work together in bringing about a strong aesthetically pleasing visual. This work is where the bold & graphic lines meets harmony, the tactile values draw the viewer in, taking them on a visual journey. I feel that art is a journey, a piece that can connect you & take you away to another place, without leaving your own home.
