Description
Description:: Artist Bio: Emma Hayes is a visual artist, primarily a painter who was born in Dublin in 1996, now living in Co. Meath. She is currently working in her studio in Dunboyne, Co Meath. She graduated in Painting in the National College of Art and Design in 2018 and has been a proud member of Berlin Opticians Gallery since then. Hayes has artworks in public and private collections, most notably in the Office of Public Works and the Facebook Air Program. Her work is informed by her internalised experiences, childhood memories and immediate surroundings. Through collage, paint and installation, Hayes is interested in the process of making a picture. The process of making a painting is a key focus in how she makes work. How Hayes applies paint is important to her. She uses gestural marks, confident brushstrokes, minimal strokes, layering and overlapping shapes, opacities, and translucency to convey personal attachments to her environment and around home life and the world around her. Description: This work represents my son lying on his changing mat. Having my baby boy was an amazing life-changing event for me. I like expressing myself through line, shape, and colour to create works that are important to me. A simple line or a shape can suggest a moment of importance. I built up layers gradually to create a simple, pared back painting that has a human presence without seen the figure.
