About artist: Kate Molloy b.1987 Limerick, is a practicing artist and facilitator based in Dublin, Ireland. Graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2014, with an MFA in Contemporary Art Practice. The work uses abstract paintings and clay to create interventions within unconventional spaces. Kate has exhibited work throughout Ireland and the U.K and was shortlisted for the Beers London Contemporary Visions VI, 2015. In 2019 Kate worked as a research assistant to Dean of Creative Arts ELAM, New Zealand. While in New Zealand Kate was a member of Art Studio Collective Auckland, culminating in an international solo exhibition Controlled Emotion at Skinroom, Hamilton (NZ). In August 2020, her first Irish solo show Poetic Hesitations opened at the Seamus Ennis Art Center, Co. Dublin. Received the 126 Micro Grant in 2020 to take part in the Turps Banana Online Surgeries. Attended the Cill Rialaig Art Residency Co. Kerry in January 2020 and February 2021. Previous member of Engage Art Studios, Galway and Wickham Street Studios, Limerick. Current member of A4 Sounds Studio, Dublin.
About artwork: This work has been largely influenced by time spent at Cill Rialaig Artist Residency. The remoteness of the area had a significant effect on the process, and the work that preceded it.
