About artist: Salah Eddine Mechegueg, born in 1987, is a Dublin-based artist and a member of Dance Ireland. He started dancing in 2003 and his style is popping and contemporary dance. He has worked with many national and international companies such as Algerien Ballet, Kamal Ouali Company, and Baraka Company. He has worked with choreographer, Abou Lagraa, in 2010 on the piece 'Nya' with the Contemporary Ballet of Algiers. In 2011, he participated in the dance documentary, 'O My Body!', directed by Laurent Ait Benalla. The documentary won Best Documentary Prize 2013 at the Festival of African, Asian, & Latin American Cinema in Milan, Italy. In 2018, he developed a keen interest in photography as a way to express his feelings and experiences in life. For him, a photo is a tool that helps him deal with many social issues. About artwork: This photograph, captured in Algeria in 2022, delves into the questions that have persistently occupied the artist's mind. Questions that challenge established Arab traditions and customs, and place the artist in the crosshairs of criticism. We see a group of dancers, united yet moving in an irregular and seemingly random manner. Their dance, a powerful embodiment of diversity, encapsulates a variety of emotions and ideas. To the artist, the image resonates with strength and cohesion, while also serving as a poignant canvas for expressions of screaming, pain, and suffering. A group of outcasts in society, yearning to express themselves and live according to their unique identities. What if we lived together without any restrictions, without any arbitrary laws... What if you accepted me as I am without any contemptuous look... What if you stopped chasing me and monitoring me, what if you let me love, let me dance, let me sing... What if...
