About artist: Siobhán Collins is a Cork-based visual artist making figurative paintings and drawings which focus on materiality and embodiment. She holds a PhD in English Literature (University College Cork), a Diploma in Botanical Illustration (Society of Botanical Artists, London), and is currently completing a Diploma in Fine Art with the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin. Collins regularly exhibits her work in curated group shows in Cork, Clare, Galway and Dublin, most recently taking part in a duo exhibition entitled Inside/Outside with fellow artist Norma Healy, Grey Heron, Bandon, September 30 to October 27 2023. Memberships include: Visual Artists Ireland (VAI), Backwater Artists Network (BAN), and Sample Studios Creative Network.
About artwork: This is a watercolour portrait of the ancient Greek poet Sappho, based on the Roman marble bust of the poet.
