Description
About artist: Andrea Calabró is a graduate of the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. She is a visual artist and a print maker. She uses her practice as a lens to challenge and present a narrative that is common to all. As a storyteller, she uses nostalgia as a tool to trigger the past of the viewer, and the past of society. Enhancing little things from the every day life, making them more interesting is something Andrea is passionate about.
About artwork: This artwork was part of an installation about the violent destruction and reconstruction of the process of growing up and loosing a part of yourself to become an adult. This is represented through a piano, a hobby of fifteen years that I abandoned when I became an grown-up. The piano is taken apart and destroyed to be constructed into a barely functional table. Like growing up, the table is unstable, and from it, the sound of a lost piano melody that I played when I was younger. Also, an eerie and unsettling sound comes out of the piano's leftovers abandoned on a corner. On the wall, screen prints of the dismantling process are printed on copper plates. These are those screen prints of the inside of the piano, on paper. To see pictures of the installation, go to: https://www.andreacalabro.com/the-silence-of-growing
