Description
About artist: Anna (she/her) is a Dublin-based artist practising multiple mediums since 2010. She has had a special interest in encaustic art since 2019 and is fascinated by the process in creating a piece from the beginning to the end. She is inspired by abstract landscapes and the translucency of the medium. She strives to capture the depth of feeling landscapes can offer. She loves creating pieces that inspire introspection , meditation, and reflection. The art pieces also involve the want to touch them. The textures and the shine of the peace is so inviting it’s almost irresistible.
Anna loves Encaustic Art as it is such an ancient and powerful medium used by the ancient Egyptians. The painting is made up of pigmented beeswax that is layered on top of each other and set with a blowtorch. The layers of wax and pigment create a depth and translucency capturing what Anna is trying to illustrate, a mood, a feeling, a memory. Multiple techniques can be explored in any given piece, they can then be scraped back to add more dimension and texture, or it can be kept smooth to elicit more of a dreamlike response.
About artwork: With this piece, I pictured Ibiza and the turquoise water and how gentle and meditative sitting at the edge of the water is I feel the seabreeze and the warm air and can practically feel the sand underneath me. It reminds me to take a deep breath and be present. Care Advice: Do not cover the encaustic piece with glass as it is Beeswax and needs air. Once a year or when the piece appears dull, simply buff with some muslin cloth and see the shine come back.
