Description
About artist: Alastair Keady is a graphic design graduate of NCAD and the Royal College of Art. He’s worked as a designer, and design educator, for far too long to dwell on. Interested in process and materiality in printmaking, he’s previously worked in letterpress, but returned to screen printing in 2017. He is a full-time member of Damn Fine Print in Stoneybatter, a newly-inducted member of the Graphic Studio Dublin, and is represented by SO Fine Art Editions. The core of Alastair’s work is hard-edged abstraction, with a specific, and ongoing focus on the square and circle, and notional points in-between the two. Often found devising an image-making technique, and then discovering ways to undermine, abuse, and subvert it. Loves a happy accident. Disinterested in rigorous adherence to consistency in a world of perfect reproduction. Which is convenient. Also a noted pedant.
About artwork: Chroma I & II is a diptych, but with no pre-defined specific orientation or arrangement. I like to work with modular elements, and these panels can be arranged in whatever fashion you like - abutting, or not. Five hand-pulled screen print layers and a 23ct gold gilded section on each 600 x 500 mm artist’s wood panel. It’s a further development of ideas related to the earlier paper-based 37 layer print ‘Follyfoot’, but with the textural qualities in this diptych inherited from the wood grain. Edition of three at this size. Wood panels need no framing, and will sit on any level protrusions.
