About artist: Rooke’s painting engages with personal mythologies spanning between two regions, the west coast of Ireland where the artist lives, and western rural Pennsylvania, where she grew up. Rooke thinks of the paintings as unreliable narratives composed of memories and dream-like aberrations of landscape, maps, culture, and the subjective experience of belonging. Her work is primarily in oils and vinyl emulsion on stretched linen or wood panel. Rooke’s work can be found in the OPW State Art Collection and private collections in Ireland, the UK, and the US. In 2021 she was the recipient of the Whyte’s Award and the CIAS Award. In 2023, Rooke graduated with an MFA from NCAD where her degree show was longlisted for the RDS Awards and shortlisted for the NUI Art & Design Prize.
