About artist: Tomasz Knapik is a visual artist from Wroclaw, Poland where he studied printmaking and graphic design at Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design. He now lives and works in Dublin where he continues his art practice at Black Church Print Studio. His work has been exhibited internationally in China, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania,
Taiwan, UK and USA.
About artwork: This natural void in the ground undergoes transformation by atmospheric influences. It provides a very stable environment which may remain constant for thousands of years. Their inhabitants are often characterized by extreme environmental conditions, such as low light levels, high humidity, and low nutrient availability. As a result, organisms adapt to subterranean life, some losing their eyes and pigment, as well as an elongation of appendages and enhancement of other senses. Stalagmites and stalactites gradually build into tall columns, suggesting a dialogue or exchange in the formation of this ecosystem.
