About artist: Graduated from NCAD 2002. Painted on and off for several years, painting slowly and steadily these days
About artwork: Having questioned how female models are depicted in magazine shoots - the way they sit, stand, the bizarre positions that they have to adopt, I searched for a male model equivalent. Tony is statuesque. He is not engaging with the viewer. However, the way he has to hold his head, the half dressed look.. he too has to conform to standards and rules. I question why? Any photo I choose and change to my liking, has to resonate with me - I have to be both inspired by and attracted to the original shot.
