About artist: Tadhg Ó Ciardha is a queer Irish artist whose work predominantly deals with themes of queer heritage and the history of mental health in Ireland. He has participated in the Arthouse Auction each year since its inception in 2020. Tadhg has a BA degree in folklore and drama, and during his time at UCD, he studied drawing with the RHA and UCD Parity Studios. He is currently an MA student in Design History and Material Culture at NCAD. Tadhg currently primarily works in drawing and watercolour. In 2019, he received an Art Factory development grant from the Complex Dublin with Comorbid Productions. He is a member of the Aerach Aiteach Gaelach collective, creating artwork for their 2021 Fringe Show, "Idir Mise agus Craiceann do Chluaise." Tadhg's artwork has been used in publications and promotional material for Arlen House, An Fócloir Aiteach and Clare Sands.
About artwork: Begun en plein air at Garinish Island in June 2021, one of Ireland's most beautiful gardens. Started at the beginning of a relationship and completed long after it ended, this piece sought to grasp (and then re-grasp) the feeling of a summer of possibility. The painting contrasts the immediate view of the gardens, cultivated by human hands, with the looming sad beauty of the Caha Mountains in the background.
