Description
About artist: Gleeson’s work explores themes of isolation, memory, history and distance.
Gleeson primarily works with intaglio printmaking methods, with a particular interest in mezzotinting, and detailed aquatints.
Gleeson graduated from Dublin’s National College of Art & Design, in 2021, with a BA in Fine Art Printmaking and Critical Cultures. She is now a member of the Black Church Print Studio in Dublin.
About artwork: This is part of a series of prints focusing on objects imagined abandoned by a fictitious polar expedition. This print was doing through mezzotinting, a method where the drawing is erased back into the plate- pulling it out of the darkness. The plate is small to emphasise the handheld nature of the original object.
