About artist: Welch’s work has been featured in numerous institutions including Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, Spain and Objectif Exhibitions, Antwerp. His paintings are in private and public collections such as the Arts Council, Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane and the OPW - State Art Collection. Recent exhibitions include Highlanes Gallery, Hang Tough Contemporary and the 192nd RHA Annual.
About artwork: Even if I lose everything' reflects on the documentary photographer Bill Stephenson and his work documenting the residents of Park Hill flats, the largest social housing estates of its type in Europe, built on one of Sheffield’s seven hills. It portrays Tony ‘the ton’ Greaves outside the ‘Pop In’ centre. The young kids at Hyde Park looked up to Tony as a role model and was nick named ‘the ton’ as they believed he could lift a ton weight.
