About artist: Jonathan Hunter was born in Hexham U.K. in 1966. He studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art Dundee and National College of Art and Design Dublin. Shows include The Mall Galleries London, The Compass Gallery Glasgow and The Ashford Gallery Royal Hibernian Academy Dublin. He is represented in Dublin by Hillsboro Fine Art. His work is in numerous public and private collections. Prizes and scholarships include The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation Residency Connecticut U.S.A. and The Model Arts Centre Residency SligoIreland.
About artwork: In Jonathan Hunter’s paintings human and animal forms appear and submerge into lushly painted landscapes and seascapes. They are a blend of narrative and landscape painting and make poetic connections to memory and the self. The paint appears loosely handled and this process plays a significant part to creating a sense of flux and change within the narratives he creates.
