About artist: Born in 1968, Martin McCann was lucky to have witnessed the many influential bands who came to play during the 1980’s and following a natural instinct, his singing voice led him to front the Dublin band SACK. His extensive portfolio includes worldwide tours, three studio albums to date and a fourth currently in the making. No stranger to the recording studio and the live stage his entire adult life, Martin has also recently sang with the RTE Concert orchestra and dabbled in critically acclaimed theatre productions taking him as far afield as the USA and New Zealand. Besides his ongoing involvement on the musical side of creativity, It’s now no surprise that Martin has channeled his artistic prowess and following a successful exhibition of his paintings in 2019 as part of the Culture Night festivities in Dublin, 2023 saw Martin's first major solo exhibition, WABI SABI which ran for seven weeks at the beautiful Rathfarnham Castle in Dublin.
About artwork: Part of a series of 10 new mixed media works on 30cm sq cradled panels. There was no specific agenda in creating these paintings except perhaps to feature indistinguishable elements in an attempt to divert the viewer's attention from what they may or may not perceive. The less conspicuous aspects can be, at the very least, challenging and conducive to longevity. I simply embraced the techniques and went with the flow.
